Build a brewery in Burton-On-Trent The Real History: At its peak, Burton produced one in every four pints of beer sold in Britain. The secret was the local geology: the water pumped from the town's wells was naturally rich in calcium sulfate (gypsum), which enhanced the flavor of hops and allowed them to brew pale ales that could survive long boat trips to India.
